2019 Australian Open Blokart Championships

On behalf of the Australian Blokart Association. I’d like to congratulate, and sincerely thank Capricornia Blokart Club Inc. on their hosting of the 2019 Australian blokart Open.
Such planning and organisation has never been displayed before now at an Open. Such simple innovations as an event specific code of conduct and a piece of rope helped to make it the most enjoyable Open yet.
The protest committee of blokarters and totally independent and trained sailing protest jurors surely needs to be a must have, (if possible) at all national events. Paul, thank you so much for having the foresight to arrange them to adjudicate. And to the two gentlemen. Well done.
Sure, there were some hiccups and mother nature let us all down on occasions, but thats blokarting. Take a bow ladies and gents, the best organised Open yet.
The get togethers after each days racing were also new, and so well catered by the ladies.
Though I wasn’t able to attend the presentation dinner, I believe the KBSC venue was second to none. Great choice.

Festival of the Wind

Thanks to all our club members who turned up to Emu Park on Sunday to help with our display of Blokarts on the beach.

Although there was no wind in the morning and we all thought the day was going to be a complete fizzer, the wind shifted around and increased in the afternoon. Everyone was kept busy taking interested members of the public for a ride.

Enter the 2015 Blokart Nationals Now

Capricornia Blokart Club, in conjunction with CQBC, will be hosting the 2015 Nationals at Mulambin Beach.
The dates are -Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th March (short course)
with a marathon- Monday March 30th.

This is the weekend before Easter- making it a 3 day week between the marathon & Good Friday.
Time to book those holidays & start thinking about accommodation.

The Big 4 Capricorn Palms has all their cabins & a lot of sites reserved for this event, which show as booked on their website too.
** please note- you will not be able to book these unless you state that you are part of the Blokart event**

Sand Yachting Dinosaur

Look what turned up on Farnborough beach this week. A 35 year old home made sand yacht from Rocky. Merv, Kevin and Roy brought it along and they allowed a mere Blokarter like myself to have a go.

The foot steering took a bit of time to get used to but it went quite well in 12 knots of wind. The frame is of aluminium so it isn’t very heavy. And it folds flat but still needs a small trailer to carry it.

It has 3 sizes of home made sails with unusual scalloped leach.

And it’s not me being rude by calling it a dinosaur. That’s what they call it.

Sand Yachting in 1971 – 40 Years Ago!

Dave L sent me these photos today. Taken on Yeppoon’s beaches in 1971. This is what he says about them.

Thought you may be interested in the attached photos. Yes, that is me standing beside the landsailer and the year was 1971. Forty years ago !!!

I was just passing through Yeppoon. The landsailer belonged to some fellow from Rocky. I saw him sailing on the beach and went down for a closer look. Ended up spending the afternoon sailing with him.

Wonder if he’s still around ???

Queensland State Blokart Titles

The weekend of the 16th / 17th April. With a 100km marathon planned for the Monday. The guys from Mackay are organising it at Rydges but would be happy to get help from down here.

Some notes from Mackay.

  • Flyweight Division – The flyweights will be 14 years and under although we may make exceptions for genuine novice competitors.
  • The idea is to give the beginners a fair go without having to mix it up with more seasoned racers.
  • 100km Marathon – We are looking at running 5km north and 5km south of the resort, if the wind allows us, which would give us a 20km lap. This may change if the beach is soft in some areas.
  • If some of your guys would like to have a practice run and plot a course, that would help also.
  • Spare Parts for Marathon – Most of us are looking at carrying a couple of spares like a wheel,axle, tyre/tube and pump, tools, whip etc.
  • The rules state that there should be no loose items in the kart but we can run a closable backpack attached to the top,rear of the seat, over the whip post and strapped to the lower axle tube.
  • We found some backpacks at Kmart up here for $4.50 and they hold a spare wheel with steel axle plus a fibre glass axle and whip easily. You may want to check if any of your guys need any extra spare bits before the event.
